Leave of Absence
Article 13 (Leave of Absence)
- Leave of absence is classified into general leave of absence and leave of military service. Students who wish to take leave of absence shall submit the leave of absence form, attached Form 4, to the Dean of Graduate School and obtain permission from the President.
- If a student cannot take the leave of absence due to personal circumstances, he/she should apply for leave of absence according to the followings:
- Within the Registration Period: Enrolled or Unenrolled Students
- Within a quarter of school days: Enrolled students
- After 1/4 line of school days: Students who have submitted a supporting document among the students deemed unavoidable due to disease or others by the Dean of the Graduate School.
- The leave of absence for military service may be applied for leave of absence to fulfill military duty, regardless of number of school days shall submit supporting documents such as notice of military duty.
- If a student cannot take the leave of absence due to personal circumstances, he/she should apply for leave of absence according to the followings:
- If a student who is allowed to take a leave of absence is going to extend the leave of absence due to unavoidable reasons or to change the type of leave of absence due to other reasons, he/she shall submit an application for extension of leave of absence (Form 5), the attached form before the expiration of the leave of absence to change or postpone the leave of absence.

General leave of absence
- A. Time to submit a leave of absence and subjects
- Within the registration period: Both registered or non-registered students
- Within 1/4 line of school days: Registered students
- After 1/4 line of school days: Students who have submitted supporting documents among those deemed unavoidable due to disease or others by the dean of graduate school
- B. Period of Leave of Absence: No longer than 2 semesters in a row
- C. Procedure
- Submit the application form for leave of absence attaching corresponding certificate or a letter of reason for leave of absence
- Integrated administration office of graduate schools reviews documents and settles as leave of absence after obtaining approval of the dean of graduate school
- D. Application for Extension of Leave of Absence: Apply for extending the leave of absence due to unavoidable reasons such as long-term overseas dispatch, or to change the type of leave of absence due to other reasons.
Leave of military service
- A. Time to Apply for Leave of Absence: When a reason to take a leave of absence occurs.
- B. Period: Period of military service under the Military Service Act
- C. Procedure
- Submit an application form for leave of absence with a copy of the notice of military service.
- Integrated Administration Office reviews the documents and settles as a leave of absence after obtaining approval of the Dean.
- D. Grade processing
- Within 2/3 line of school days: The grade is not be recognized.
- Before the final exam but after 2/3 line of school days: The grade can be recognized if take an exam after submitting a prescribed application form.
- E. Tuition Fees for Leaving Students: If the student takes course for longer than 1/2 line of school days and returns, all payables including tuition shall be collected (provided that when the leave of absence was taken due to military service or other applicable laws and regulations, the tuition will be deemed to have been paid).
Return
Article 14 (Return to School)
- Students whose leave of absence has expired must submit a return application form, attached Form 6, to the Dean before the start of each semester and receive permission from the President.
- Notwithstanding paragraph ①, if the President considers it inevitable, he/she may grant return to the quarter of the school days.
- If the student in military leave is ordered to go home after completing his duty, he must return to school within 10 days from returning home. However, this is limited when the student can take more than three quarters of school days.
- Students in military service may apply for a return to school if they apply for a return attaching one of following documents:
- Certificate of expected discharge from military service
- Course permit
- Copy of leave certificate (original copy shall be presented)
Article 15 (Voluntary dropout)
Students who wish to leave the school voluntarily must submit an application for dropout in Form 7 to the Dean.
Article 16 (Expulsion)
When the Dean of the Graduate School is to expel the student, he/she shall notify the head professor of the relevant department by stating the reasons for the expulsion and related matters.
Return period
It is a registration period of every semester, and the student may return to the extent not exceeding one quarter of school days. If not return within this period, he/she will be expelled.
Required Documents

Returning Procedure
Prepare and submit the application form for return (Integrated Administration Office) → Apply for course → Pay tuition
- A. : Application for course: Apply for course after being guided from the department office.
- B. Tuition payment period: The period for additional registration after opening course will be designated separately. (print out the notice from the next-generation integrated information system on the homepage and pay the tuition to the bank designated within the period)
Notes
- A. If the student cannot return to school due to military service, submit the application for postponement (attach the certificate of the military service).
- B. Students who do not postpone the leave of absence while serving in industry-specific exemption must apply for postponement of leave of absence by bringing a certificate of employment and a copy of the service record of the industry technical personnel (with the originality-comparison seal).
- C. Please note and take care that the student who fails to return within the specified period will be expelled from school.
- D. The student who is a reservist shall report to the reserve army battalion of the university.
Readmission
- Article 6 (Readmission)
- A person who intends to re-enter out of those who have dropped out or been expelled shall submit a re-entry application form in the attached Form No. 1 within the prescribed period and obtain the approval of the President after review of the Graduate School Committee.
- If the original department has been abolished, the President may grant re-admission by the recruitment unit prescribed by the school regulations in consideration of the educational purpose.
- Readmission: it means that the student who dropped out or was expelled enters the school again when there is a vacant set in the prescribed number.
- Vacant seat: Means a vacant seat in the prescribed number of the graduate school
